Angry Birds : Movie Announced For 2016

With more than 1.7 billion downloads, Angry Birds will soon be hitting our screens in movie format. Sony Pictures Entertainment have  obtained the rights to distribute a movie based upon the loveable characters. Everywhere I go, I see the angry little fellas – they are even set to have an area dedicated to Angry Birds in the UK’s  Lightwater Valley theme park, which will be opening on the 26th of May.

Sony seem to be pulling out all the stops to make the movie a hit with producers David Maisel (Ironman) and John Cohen (Dispicable Me) set to join the production team. The movie is set to be released on the 1st of July 2016. A strange decision in my eyes: with the next generation of game consoles right on our doorstep, there is every chance that Angry Birds could well be a thing of the past by the time we reach the release date.

My son is always playing Angry Birds on his iPad, but he tends to watch the animated series more than actually playing the game, so maybe Sony are onto something here? Regardless, it is still a risk to plan a movie so far ahead in this ever-growing and rapidly changing industry.

In other words: I am sure that my son will love it; if he’s still into it in 2016.
