The Message

“God of War is the type of game that makes you remember why you play games in the first place”…”some of the goriest, most exaggerated, and over-the-top violence I’ve ever seen”…”pulls it off perfectly”…”the best thing to happen to Greek mythology”…”stunning and unbelievably detailed”…”game of the year”…”deserves universal acclaim”…”one of the best action adventure games on the PlayStation 2″…”should not be missed”…”simply a marvelously executed experience that’s fun from beginning to end”

The Translation

A lead character with about as much appeal as the moonlighting, alchoholic bouncer from your local nightclub; a violent bastardisation of some of the most intriguing and enchanting mythology in existence; no dynamic in the pacing or atmosphere of the game whatsoever just hour after tiresome hour of everything ramped up to 11; a repetitive, mind-numbing buttton mashing slog of a fight; pathetic platforming and puzzle mechanics; dire QTE events that ping you right back to an arbitrary check point in the middle of an overly protracted boss battle; a dumb obsession with telling tell me “you are dead” when I’m dead; and I can rip off a demi-god’s head and ram it down his throat but I struggle to open a treasure chest?!
