Cart: Ultimate Marvel Versus Capcom 3 Cab: PS3 / Vita /Xbox 360 Coin: Capcom
I’m not really into fighting games. At all.
I wish I was though. I can imagine that the thrill of a closely fought battle is pretty hard to beat and the reflexes that you develop must be amazing. Maybe I’m just getting too old for it all. Who am I kidding: there’s no ‘maybe’ about it.
My kids, on the other hand, are mad for it. And whilst I can’t, in all conscience, let them play the rather lovely but brutal looking Injustice: Gods Among Us, I can sate their super-hero thirst with Ultimate Marvel Versus Capcom 3 and its distinctly more Saturday-morning-cartoon flavour.
Of all fighting genres, it’s the 2D cell-shaded variety that I appreciate looking at the most. Perhaps it’s because the last time I played fighters seriously, this was all we had, but I think it’s more to do with the fact that it’s like seeing a comic-book come to life and comics are, after all, the birthplace of all things super-hero.
It’s a lineage that Capcom seem to be all-too aware of based on the utterly captivating intro for UMVC3, which is nothing short of a living comic-book.
