Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a great game. A mini Far Cry 3 with added character, 80’s theming and a healthy injection of love, Blood Dragon is a beauty of a game, and it gets off to a fantastic start.
After some retro mickey taking of Metal Gear, Terminator and Operation Wolf, you are strapped into the side gunner’s position on a helicopter, ready to strafe hundreds of enemies in a pre-scripted flight sequence.
Now, outside of the outrageous explosions and quips from your character, this is a fairly by-the-numbers sequence that you have probably played in a dozen games. Yet, there is one thing that lifts this part of the game to an incredible level: the music.
If you check out the video below, you will hear the classic ‘Long Tall Sally’ thumping over the stream of bullets in what is an obvious homage to 1980’s classic Predator, which itself used the game in the sequence in which the mercenaries are taken by helicopter to the jungle.
I can’t tell you how awesome this is, and how incredible it is that nobody has done this before. Yes, there was no shooting in this section of the movie, but what does it matter? If you love videogames, and love 1980’s action movies, prepare for heaven.
