Assassin’s Creed IV : A Pirate’s Life?
Ubisoft has finally allowed the press to unveil the details for the latest game in the Assassin’s Creed series, Black Flag.
So, was it worth all the leaks and stories that have been swirling round the Internet for the last couple of days?
Well, as much as I want to put on my miserable VoxelArcade hat and have a good moan and complain, I just can’t, as the game looks superb.
Before I go on to wax lyrical about the game, check out the full trailer below;
The game will be released on November 1st for PS3, Wii U, PC and Xbox 360, with a version for ‘next generation consoles’, so expect an improved release for PS4 and whatever the next Xbox is called.
Ubisoft tell us that there are 50 locations to explore, from small islands to larger land masses with towns and large jungle areas, and the ability to swim underwater will hopefully mean that water doesn’t mean instadeath for enemies this time around.
Aside from the thought of exploring the sea aboard a pirate ship in a massive open world, a lack of a mention of the Animus has us hoping, nay, praying that all of the ‘future’ white-walled parts are going to be dropped altogether; we think this would be great for the series as a whole.
You will play the part of Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed 3′s Connor, sailing the good ship The Jackdaw, a vessel that can have its capabilities increased massively over the course of the game, with deeper ship mechanics than the simple offering in the previous game. You will still be spending a good deal of time exploring on land, with cities and jungles to find and kill your targets.
If Ubisoft can keep a good level of variety in the side and sub quests, and if they master the quiet moments as well as the action packed parts, then this looks like it could be the best ocean-going open world game since The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
With this, Watch Dogs, Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Ubisoft are on top form, it has to be said.
